Schloss Goldenberg – situated in the heart of the Zurich wine country – has been enthroned above the Flaachtal for almost a thousand years. The all-round view on fine days is overwhelming, the Rhine and Säntis seem close enough to touch. The very well preserved castle has been converted into an extensive agricultural business. The magnificent character of the estate has been preserved. The golf club has moved into the orangery of the farm building – which with its vaulted structures is reminiscent of long gone knightly days. There you will find the clubhouse with restaurant, cloakrooms, caddie hall and secretariat.
The spacious castle grounds offer ample space for the quiet golf course. Surrounded by vineyards and pastures, the course extends far beyond the hill. The 18 holes are laid out around the Golden Mountain and require beginners and single handicap players alike to be very sporty (82m difference in altitude). Not too long (5672m from white), but a varied challenge.
The high rough is not unlike Irish pasture land. Besides the somewhat shorter and therefore dense clover it is treacherous in places. The blind holes require a lot of tactical play skills.
The club restaurant in the strikingly high vaulted rooms is a tempting place to linger. The kitchen serves home-style cooking and regional specialities, such as the famous Flaacher Spargel. The Goldenberger Riesling, which is cultivated around the course like.
